Welcome to my blog.

I hope to record my "woodturning plus" ventures here, approaching my new work with trepidation as well as excitement.

I felt that I had got a bit stuck with my woodturning and so have been casting about for a new creative direction.  I have a workshop full of wooden off-cuts and boards, all manner of screws, nails and other hardware, glues, paints, abrasives, woodworking tools and machinery... and a little unsold stock haha.  In other words, plenty of materials to play with.

In the course of my researches, I came across the works of Louise Nevelson and Ivan Barnett who both used found wooden objects (amongst other things) to create collaged panels.  So taking my inspiration from them, I set about cutting up some of my turnings and combining them with off-cuts, staining or painting and gluing or screwing them to boards to create wall panels.  This is all exploratory work at the moment, just playing with composition and aiming for something half-way attractive, trying to find a direction and a meaning.  Here are some of the initial results (not to scale) using wood turned sections and off-cuts...
